Peer Recovery- The "Been There" Difference
The mental health system can feel confusing and overwhelming, especially when you’re already struggling. You may be tired of talking to clinicians who have no idea what you’ve been through. You may be worried about judgment from past experiences. Or you might simply need someone in your corner who genuinely gets it.
That’s where peer recovery comes in.
Our peer recovery navigation program is led by Sarah Ardeel, a Certified Peer Recovery Coach in Mental Health (CPRC-MH), who brings both lived experience and professional training to your recovery journey. Sarah has been where you are, and she uses that understanding—paired with coaching skills and system knowledge—to help you navigate the path forward.
What Is Peer Recovery?
Peer recovery is a person-driven model of support where someone with their own lived experience of mental health challenges or substance use helps you build the skills and confidence to take charge of your own recovery. It is not therapy and it is not a clinical service—it is partnership, guidance, and lived understanding that complements your clinical care.
Research consistently shows that peer support improves engagement in treatment, reduces feelings of isolation and stigma, and increases hope and self-efficacy during recovery.
Services We Offer
Our peer recovery program includes help connecting to mental health treatment and community resources, support attending appointments and navigating the healthcare system, guidance understanding insurance benefits and accessing services, advocacy and communication support with your providers, person-centered goal-setting and wellness planning, connection to peer support groups and community organizations across our service areas, crisis planning and safety support, and interpersonal boundary planning and setting.
The Person-Driven Difference
This isn’t about someone fixing things for you. You’re not a diagnosis and you’re not a case file. You’re a person with hopes, goals, and the power to create change in your life. Our peer recovery coach walks alongside you, helping you discover your own capacity to navigate systems, overcome barriers, and believe that recovery is possible. You set the goals. You make the decisions. We provide the support, guidance, and reminder of your own strength.
Who Can Benefit?
Peer recovery services can be valuable for anyone who feels overwhelmed by the mental health or healthcare system, is new to treatment and unsure where to start, has had negative past experiences with providers or programs, is managing a dual diagnosis of mental health and substance use concerns, wants non-clinical support alongside their therapy or medication management, or could use help setting personal goals and staying accountable.
Insurance and Access
We accept most commercial insurance plans and Medicaid for peer recovery services. Visit our insurance page or call 317-207-0273 to check your coverage. Peer recovery services can be used on their own or combined with other MYINDSET programs like medication management or therapy.
Recovery is possible, and you have the power to make it happen.
